BALI #1 - OUR STAY IN MONTIGO RESORT SEMINYAK, BALI

ENGLISH RECAP

Hi eveyone 💛

As you might have noticed from my latest stories on Instagram, Martin and I have spent the past weeks traveling in Bali. Neither of us had been to Bali before, but after only a few days on the beautiful Indonesian island, we quickly agreed that this undoubtedly is one of our favorite destinations. Bali is an absolutely amazing place with its beautiful nature, wild animal life, great tropical climate, yoga culture and its people not to forget, who are so incredibly kind, sweet and smiling. It is definitely the most friendly and welcoming people I have ever met. We have felt so welcome ever since we came to the island thanks to all the sweet people we've met.

As mentioned, We've been away for two weeks, which on the one hand side sounds like a long time, but then again not really, since first of all Bali is basically situated on the other side of the world (form Denmark at least), the journey itself takes about two out of the 14 days plus the enormous amount of things there is to see and do in Bali. With that in mind, we’ve had to plan carefully what we wanted to do and where to stay not least. We always attempt to stay in different accommodation types, since the type of accommodation you choose can greatly affect the way you experience a new place - whether you stay in a hotel, resort, Airbnb or something entirely different.

We stayed four different places for our Bali trip; three places on the island and one place on Gili Air, which is one of three little islands just East of Bali.

We started in Seminyak, which is situated on the southern part of the island, relatively close to Denpasar (the capital city), where the airport also is located – very convenient, since this meant we wouldn’t have to transport ourselves any further after a looong flight. I can personally recommend you start your journey on the southern part of the island, when you're planning a longer trip to Bali.

The Seminyak area including Kuta, Canggu, and Legian are probably known as one of the more touristed areas of Bali with lots of beautiful wide beaches, big resorts, beach clubs, boutiques, art galleries as well as cute little restaurants and chic cafes. Since we were there a bit out of season (April, where high season is around June-August), we didn’t really experience the many tourists – thankfully, as we normally try to avoid these areas when traveling. As such, it was a very nice time to visit this area. Also, we found some super cool restaurants and cafes with very delicious (and healthy!!) foods as well as stylish shops and art galleries that I think are worth visiting if you are in Bali – if nothing else, just to get a feel of this part of the island – which is VERY different from the others. But more about those in a later post.

MONTIGO RESORT SEMINYAK

As mentioned, we really aimed to try out some different types of accommodation on the island, and since we decided to start in Seminyak, we though it would make sense to try one of the beautiful resorts around here, since this probably is the type of accommodation that this part of the island does best, so to say. We were so lucky to partner up with Montigo Resort Seminyak and spent our first three nights there.

Montigo Resort is, not surprisingly, a resort with 124 rooms scattered over a relatively large area, meaning that we didn’t get the feeling of being crammed together with hundreds of other guests. The hotel has some very beautiful and cozy areas, where you can hang around and relax and still get the feeling of some privacy. There are for instance three outdoor pools, where Garden Pool, which you see on the above picture, was our favorite.

Our room in Montigo

Our room was very spacious and cozy and basically had everything you would need from a hotel room. The bed was super comfortable and big, and the same goes for the bathroom, which also had a hot tub – important detail haha, especially when you don’t have one at home. 😃

Besides, our room has its own little garden, which was a really nice additional feature. We didn’t use it that much though, since we preferred the outdoor area by the Garden Pool or by the beach, which was just next door. On the beach, you’ll also find the super cool Potato Head beach club, which is definitely the coolest beach club I’ve visited.

Dining at Montigo

There is only one restaurant at Montigo Resort, but that also has it all. We had breakfast here every morning, which consisted of a great selection of fresh local fruits and vegetables, Asian specialties, breads and cereals, different kinds of eggs as well as freshly squeezed juices – all delicious and fresh. Also, the staff was super friendly, courteous and very accomodating to any special needs and requests.

We didn’t have dinner in the restaurant though, as we were so lucky that the staff had arranged the most romantic dinner by the pool . This was definitely one of the most romantic settings both of us had ever experienced – setting-wise at least. 😉💛

The food itself was a good mix of Asian gourmet food with a specific focus on the Balinese kitchen. All the foods were made largely from locally sourced foods, which I really appreciate when eating out in any city. All the dishes were tasteful and delicious, but our favorite(s) were definitely their fish platter as well as this rather funky mix of a lobster and cappuccino soup.

Spa at Montigo

Besides our lovely romantic pool dinner, Montigo also had arranged a Balinese welcome massage and treatment for us the day after our arrival, which was just the perfect time after a long flight.

The Montigo Spa was nicely decorated yet simple with a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere, which is probably one of the most important features of a spa if you ask me.

Before starting the massage, we were given a short food massage, which was soo nice. 😍

The massage was amazing, and the staff made a great effort of making the treatment specifically tailored for the individual; prior to our treatment we were asked to fill out a little sheet asking where we would like the main focus to be on the body, which oils we liked as well as the pressure.

After the massage, Montigo had arranged a rose petal hot tub for us - I mean. 😍

We were soo happy with our treatment, and I can definitely recommend you try one of them - even if you don’t actually stay at Montigo , you can always drop by and book one.

Staff at Montigo

Last but not least, I will have to make a comment on on the staff at Montigo, which undoubtedly was the most friendly and welcoming staff that both Martin and I have encountered at any hotel before. Always smiling, kind and friendly, and always interestedly how we were doing – yet not the classic how-are-you way, where they don’t get to hear half of what we say anyway. No, here it was different in the sense that people are actually interested in how you’re doing and ask questions interestedly and listen to what you have to say – perhaps they also tell a bit about themselves, but never in an inappropriate way. Just a friendly conversation between people, and that’s it. After our two weeks in Bali, I'd say that Balinese people are some of the most friendly and smiling people I have ever me. And especially the staff at Montigo contributed a great deal in making our stay in Seminyak truly unforgettable.
